WHO ARE WE?

Durham Opera Ensemble (DOE) is a student opera company regularly showcasing some of Britain’s finest student musical talent in and around Durham University. As we embark upon the new academic year, we are actively looking for new members to join our society. We hope you keep up to date with our latest updates and events.

WHAT’S ON

“It’s a pleasant surprise that such a wide range of operatic talent can be sourced in Durham.”
SIMON FEARN, PALATINATE
“Visually, (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) was sensational; vocally, it was tremendous. If Shakespeare had commissioned one of his most-loved comedies as an opera, I’m sure he would have enjoyed it as much as me.”
REBECCA PERCIVAL, PALATINATE
“(Carmen) was a tour de force, stylishly portraying everything we love about DOE.”
SIMON FEARN, PALATINATE
“I hold a notorious contempt for contemporary opera, yet DOE’s performance tonight (of Mansfield Park) has made me completely reconsider my opinion on the subject.”
SOPHIA SMITH GALER, PALATINATE
“(Mansfield Park) is, without a doubt, one of the most polished vocal performances that DOE have ever produced and you’d be a fool to miss it.”
SOPHIA SMITH GALER, PALATINATE
“Opera has always provoked more than just simple entertainment and it was refreshing to see Durham Opera Ensemble do just that in their latest production ‘The Voyage’.”
LEO WINN, PALATINATE
“I was charmed and delighted by both the music and the production.”
JANE SHUTTLEWORTH, MUSIC IN DURHAM
“(The Magic Flute) was an extremely impressive production.”
ROSE ASHWORTH, THE BUBBLE
“The performance whets the operatic appetite for what the Durham Opera Ensemble has to offer in the future.”
JACK PARKES, THE BUBBLE
“In terms of sheer spectacle, (Carmen) was head and shoulders above the rest of student theatre.”
SIMON FEARN, PALATINATE
