About Richard Suart:
DOE are delighted to announce that we will be holding a masterclass for the cast of our upcoming production HMS Pinafore on 2nd June 2018. The masterclass will be held with Richard Suart (baritone). Suart is considered “the leading patter man of his generation”. In 2005, Suart sang the role of Sir Joseph Porter in a semi-staged version of HMS Pinafore at the Proms and received these reviews:
‘Among the singers, much the best were….Richard Suart who made a splendidly fatuous Ruler of the Queen’s Navee.’
Ivan Hewett – The Daily Telegraph
‘Richard Suart as a veteran Sir Joseph Porter sang and acted everyone else off stage as an admirable Admiral.’
Hilary Finch – The Times
Suart has sung operatic roles for all the major British opera companies, including The Royal Opera Covent Garden, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera and Opera North. He has sung Ko-Ko in The Mikado with ENO for more than 25 years.
Attending with Suart will be Bryan Evans, who in 1993 was awarded an MBE for services to music and opera. Evans is the Musical Director of Diva Opera and will be accompanying the masterclass. He will also provide vocal coaching to the singers, drawing on his years of experience, having co-run Diva Opera for over 20 years.
The production team are very much looking forward to welcoming Suart and Evans to Durham. We are sure that the cast will benefit from their knowledge and experience. If you haven’t already, do sign up for an audition! The slots are filling up quickly and you do not want to miss out on a chance to be in this fantastic production, nor the opportunity to work with these talented musicians!
