About Sir Thomas Allen:

Sir Thomas Boaz Allen CBE (born 10 September 1944) is an English operatic baritone. He is widely admired in the opera world for his voice, the versatility of his repertoire, and his acting—leading many to regard him as one of the best lyric baritones of the late 20th century. In October 2011, he was appointed Chancellor of Durham University, succeeding Bill Bryson.

About the masterclass:

It was a pleasure to have Sir Thomas Allen return to our music department. This small intimate masterclass gave four students the opportunity to receive some invaluable advice before the start of term. The session showcased a range of pieces such as Schumann, Debussy, and Quilter. Sir Thomas worked very closely with each individual student expressing views on both diction and technique. He is such an asset to the Univeristy and we hope to be working closely with him over the coming years. Much appreciation was expressed by the students having an opportunity to receive training from such an iconic figure.
