Synopsis:

Part play, part song and dance, Henry Purcell’s ribald and irreverent semi-opera The Fairy Queen glistens with theatrical magic. No one knows who wrote the text-a Restoration-era take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream -that slyly comments and elaborates on Shakespeare’s comedy.

The Production:

The opera took place in Durham’s Botanic Gardens, providing a beautifully intimate performance space, perfect for a summer afternoon. Our 10-hectare university Botanic Garden is set amongst beautiful mature woodlands on the southern outskirts of Durham city.
